Adding A DVD window to your Xbox

Want to add a window to see your disk and to make your ‘box look cooler? Here’s how!

WARNING! I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR Xbox, DVD DRIVE, YOURSELF, OR ANYTHING ELSE.

Time required, 30-40 min.

Tools required:

LED's of your choice (blue, red, etc)

100 ohm resistor for each LED

   Wire

   Hot glue or Tape

   Soldering Iron, solder, etc.

   Dremel (Or similar)

   Cutting Disks

   Paint (your choice of color)

   Plexiglass/Acrylic

**Note** This is done to a Samsung Drive, It will work for all drives however. They have basically the same Screw locations etc)

And now, how to do it!

1: Open your Xbox (I’m not going to tell you how, if you’re attempting this, you should know already)

2: Disconnect all cables from the DVD drive.

3: Pop out the drive, there are two tabs on the drive to push out. Then just lift the drive up.

4: Flip over the drive and remove the 4 screws. Then lift off the top. Set this aside for later.

5: Now on the Xbox case, decide the design you want, mask it off with tape, pull out your Dremel, and cut away!

6: Make sure you sand the sides of your cuts to make them smooth. Take the lid of your drive and place it against the cut in the case. Using a marker, draw the window onto the drive’s lid. After, Hot glue some plexi to the back of the case, sealing the window up (Tint it if you would like)

7: Remove ALL stickers from the lid. Locate the round stabilizer in the middle. You must NOT cut this. Again, do NOT cut the stabilizer and holder. To avoid this, simply cut around the circle on the lid.

8: Using a vice, clamp your lid and cut it with the Dremel. Again, do NOT cut the circle.

9: Sand down all rough edges. Now lay the lid on some newspaper and give it a couple coats of paint. No clearcoat is required.

10: Now, for the LED’s. Flip over your now-dry lid and decide where to place LED’s to light up the disk, Here’s where I put mine:

11: Make sure to solder a resistor to the + Side of the LED’s. Solder a wire from the resistors and solder another wire in a different color from the Negative sides of the lights.

12: Remove the bottom-metal shield of the drive and locate the Yellow Cable Plug. Looking on the circuit board where this connects, solder the wires going to the resistors to point ‘A’ in the picture. Solder the wires going to the negative side of the LED’s to point ‘B’ in the picture.

13: Screw the lid back down, snap the drive back into place in the carrier, close up your Xbox, and you’re done!
