So you have a beautifully painted Xbox with a black bland rocker switch to control your mod chip. While you could paint the rocker switch without taking it apart you would never get the same results as if you had.

To take a rocker apart without damaging the front you must take your safety pin (or needle) and push it through the empty slot on the left hand side of the rocker. Keep pushing until the front part of the rocker pops out. If it becomes too hard get a pair of pliers to help.

Once you have removed the rocker from the housing you will notice the switch itself has a pin and spring housed within it. The switch housing holds a metal clip. Take these pieces and place them in your ziploc bag so you don't loose them.

Push the 2 metal posts through the cardboard to hold it in place while painting.
Here you can see I have taken the masking tape and masked the spring housing on the switch and placed masking tape inside the switch housing protecting the metal contacts inside.
From this point you would sand your surface exactly like you did on your Xbox shell (if you did at all). In other words do everything you did to your Xbox to the rocker switch (including primer) in order for them to match.

As you can see taking it apart insures coverage of every little nook and cranny.
Now when your putting it back together there is a little metal contact inside the housing that can be a little tricky. It normally falls out as your taking the switch out so you don't get to see how it normally sits. If your rectangle metal contact is bowed at all the bow goes rounded side down. You should also notice a small "nub" on the rectangle contact, this nub sits over the first power post. Since there are only 2 power posts and you used the empty 3rd power post hole to stick your safety pin through it is easy to line this metal contact up correctly (look at the first picture in this guide post 1 is the post the nub needs to touch).
Well there you have it, now your Xbox looks professional all the way down to your mod chip switch, it's the details that count.
