Ok here goes an indepth picture ridden explaination of how to move your controller ports. except there wont be many pictures cuz i never thought to take very many. I reccomend doing this on the right side of the xbox as the dvd drive will get in the way on the left and you will have to move it back as i did. . .trust me you dont want this it is hard. the first thing was moving the ports . . . i didnt think to take a lot of pictures of this so i will show a few pics and mention what is going on. I originally got this idea when i used to store my controllers on top of my xbox. and I would always have to take the second controller off the top to eject the Game and it bothered me to no end so i decided to move it. First things first moving the actual ports. You need: 10 pieces of wire about 1-2 inches for each wire on the right set of ports Solder and Soldering Iron Hot Glue Gun 2 screws the same as the ones you removed from the controller ports only about an inch or a little less long First off Take your right controller ports out of your xbox there are just 2 screws on either side of the pair. and Unplug them from the board. Next cut each wire and solder in the extension. You cant just put them on the other side. the wires arent long enough it just wont work. Put hot glue or electical tape over your solders so they dont touch and conduct. Next you need to cut away the sheilding above your controller ports on the right. enough space to fit the new ports in directly above. Now remove the screws from your right pair of controller ports but dont take them out. Place your ports from the left that you have already modfied (lengthened the wires) and place them directly on top of you left pair of ports. Now run those longer screws you got down though both ports and . . . the ports are now mounted. You should have something that looks like this: |
![]() You will also need to cut a bit out of the front of your HDD tray to make it fit back down as the controller ports come up a bit higher than it does. Now for the tricky part: Making it all look good. You will need: Hot Glue Epoxy Bondo Detail Sander Your Front Pannel. Take your dremel and cut out the ports on the left. cut a rectangle around both ports fairly tight but dont worry too much about it. Next cut a rectangle bigger slightly bigger than the one you just cut above your right controller ports. Now flip the piece with the port holes in it you have cut out over and tack it in place with hot glue so the ports are directly above eachother. The alignment is crucial here if you dont get it right it will be difficult or even impossible to plug your controllers in. put the face plate back on your xbox as a test fit to make sure you can plug controllers in and everything. Take your time here this is where it really matters make sure everything lines up perfectly. This is why you are using the hot glue it isint very strong and can be broken and repositioned quickly and easily. After you get everything perfectly aligned Glue it in with Epoxy. dont use hot glue it is soft and you will most like get cracks later and then you will b like "oh why didnt i listen to Tango?" Wait for the epoxy to get good and dry, then sand off any excess that is too high. Now the ports are in place but they look like crap. Now step up with the bondo. Smooth in the rectangle with the port holes in it, let it dry and sand it with a detail sander. repeat until you have a perfectly smooth finish. Don't assume that paint will make it look better if you have noticable marks. It most likely wont and you will be bondoing again after you paint. You should now have a face plate where the right side looks like this: |
![]() Now for the right side rather than just filling it in with bondo and being done with it which is probably what most people will want to do I added a Fan Controller basically the same ideas as outlined above but a bigger hole and i used the front pannel of the fan controller and moulded that in. When your all done mount the front pannel back on your xbox and have fun with it. |
