Activity Leds

You will need:

For either hard drive or lan activity:

1. Mount your led anywhere you want it. You can use a drill to make a small hole for it somewhere visible. Use a hotglue gun, or a led bracket to hold it in place.

2. Solder one resistor of appropriate size (check Working With Leds page) to the anode (positive lead) of the led.

3. Connect a wire from the other end of the resistor to any +5v power source. Good choices for +5v are the red controller port wires, or the red hard drive power wire.

4. If you want the led to flash with hard drive activity, connect a wire from the cathode (negative lead) of the led to the point shown below. For reference, this spot is directly underneath the ide cable plug.

5. If you want the led to flash with lan activity, connect a wire from the cathode (negative lead) of the led to the point shown below. For reference, this spot is directly underneath the lan port.

That\'s all there is to it. Power it up and watch them flash away.
