Installing leds into ports

You will need:

1. Use the solder braid to remove solder from the areas marked in red (those areas on both sides of each port). Hold the braid over the soldered area, and push the soldering iron into the braid. The braid will draw the solder in, and you need to keep working up the braid as it gets saturated with solder.

2. Use the thinnest tipped flatblade screwdriver you can find, and pry the edges out as shown in the picture. If they don\'t pry easily, hit the back end of the screwdriver with something to jam the tip into the gap and break the edge loose.

3. Push down on the edges, the metal port-cover should swing down and come off.

4. Grab an led, and compare it with the picture below. You'll notice inside the led there is a large metal chunk on one side, and a thin wire on the other side. The large chunk is the ground, and the thin wire is the positive lead. Bend the ground lead on one led and trim the end as shown in the picture. This will be the left led.

5. Grab another led, and bend the ground lead and trim it short as shown in this picture. This will be the right led.

6. Take the left led, and run the lead under the port wires. The led should point through the hole on the left side, and the lead should go under the wires and touch the end of the black wire. Solder the lead to the end of the black wire.

7. Take the right led, and stick it down in the right side so the led aims through the hole, and the short ground lead rests on the solder point you just made. Solder the ground leads of both leds together, so they both connect to the black wire. Your port should hopefully look something similar to this:

8. Trim one end of a resistor short, about 1/4" from the resistor. Solder this end onto the end of the red wire, as shown below.

9. Trim the other end of the resistor down to about 1/4". Use the needlenose pliers to bend the two positive leads up to touch the end of the resistor. They cannot touch the ground leads, and must have a low profile because they cannot contact the metal port cover when it is replaced. Solder the three ends together (resistor and both positive led leads), and trim the ends as short as possible. Compare your work with these images, this is what it should look like:

10. Repeat this process with the other three ports.

11. Flatten out the edges of the port covers with the pliers, and bend the edges inward slightly. They should slide back onto the ports without touching the led wires, and usually snap back on easily.

12. Plug them back in, you're finished!

Your ports will light up brightly whenever your xbox is powered on.
