Backlit Jewel in an S-Controller:
You will need:
- Already opened xbox case
- Soldering iron
- Solder
- 3mm or 5mm led
- 45ohm resistor (anything close will do)
- Dremel
- Hot gluegun
Installing the LED Backlight
1. Open the controller, don't miss the screw under the label on the bottom. Remove the top and bottom of controller
shell.
2. Locate the line of points on the controller board. The points are a vertical line up the center between the right
thumbstick and the control pad.

3. Identify the two points that you will need to use. NOTE: THESE ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME! On the back of the board,
there are 6 wires that connect to these points. You need to use the points that go to the red wire, and one of the black
wires. Some controllers have the red at the top, some have the red at the bottom, so look carefully and don\'t just
assume my pics are exactly like your controller.
4. Trim one end of your resistor short (down to 1/4" or so) and solder this to the point that connects the red wire.
5. Solder the other end of the resistor to the anode (positive pole) of the led.
6. Solder the cathode (negative pole) of the led to the point that connects the black wire.
7. Aim the led up and forward, towards where the jewel will sit after re-assembly.
Here are some pics that show how things should look when you're done:

Installing the s-controller jewel:
1. Pull off the stock jewel. It's just a sticker, pry it off with a fingernail or a knife.
2. Cut a hole through the case top under the jewel. I recommend using a dremel or large drillbit. To make the jewel sit
flush with the top of the controller, the hole needs to be exactly the same size as the jewel. I usually make the hole a
bit small, then gradually widen it with a round file so the jewel just barely fits in.
3. Glue the jewel from the bottom with superglue or hot-glue.
If needed, you can re-aim the led at the center of the jewel. Assuming all went well this far, re-assemble the controller.
Hopefully yours will turn out looking like mine:
