Jewel replacement Tools needed: Screw driver Dremel tool Emery cloth New jewel |
|
Ok lets start with taking the metal shield off the inside of the top case. Slide long screw driver up under the shield and move the tip to each point with the arrow pointing to it and pry it up. Don't worry the shield is no longer needed for this aplication. |

Now you will be faced with a choice not an altogether hard one but here it is. Do you care about the retail jewel you are taking out? If you answered yes then refer to the tutorial to remove your jewel using the freezer. If your answer is no then lets use the cave man method ( My personal favorite ). Drill a hole from the under side with the dremel or a drill and a 1/2" bit just through the case plastic " not through the jewel ". Stick a screw driver in the hole brace the case and smack the end of the screw driver with the palm of your hand. this method takes 1 minute versus 15. |
|
Now take your dremel tool and "the bit" and use it to cut out the center of the hole leaving atleast 1/8" all the way around. Note that it is better to have a hole that is to small rather than to big. Now take your jewel and try it in the hole if you got a jewel that sits on the ridge you should only need to sand down the circle for a nice look. If your new jewel actually fits inside the hole use the emery cloth to sand down the high spots checking frequiently to see how your fit is progressing. |

Install the light kit of your choice I used a cold cathode for this one. Simple plug in wires for power from HD and use some double sided pad tape to hold the light in place( the thick stuff ). Use some black construction paper to lay over the hd and dvd so you can't see them through the jewel hole. Turn on your xbox and call the buddies to see what you have done. |
