Installing a external dvd drive. Submitted by The X place

Tools and equipment needed:

Locate the 6 screws on the under side of the Xbox.

Unscrew with a T-20 screwdriver. (Note. 2 screws are located under the warranty stickers. If you don't want to void your warranty carefully remove with a hair dryer peeling off very slowly) Remove all 6 screws by pulling out then flip the case back over and remove the lid.

Unplug the end which connects to the Xbox DVD drive and connect a IDE cable which has 2 male ends on either end. Also unplug the power form the hard drive and connect the power splitter. With the two ends re-plug one into the hard drive and attach the extension cable to the other.

  • Using a saw like below cut out the holes for the male IDE  end cable and power cable to go.

  • Make sure you cut out only to this level as that is all you need. Epoxy may also come in handy to keep both the IDE and power cable ends up.

  • The finished result may look something like this

  • Now you need 2 IDE cables which are 2 device and which have both female ends. Attach the first IDE cable to the Xbox DVD drive and thread the cable through the whole you have just created so the other end is hanging out the Xbox. See above.

  • With the other IDE cable just attach it to the back of the PC DVD drive and let the other end out.

  • Do the same with the second power extension cable.

  • Now you should have a completed mod. To switch between the two DVD drives you plug in the one accordingly when the console is turned OFF. Now enjoy reading all the media you want.
