Tools needed: -USB Extesnion cable -Xbox Controller Extension Cable -Wire cutter/strippers -Soldering Iron w/solder -Electrical tape or heatshrink |
![]() 1. This is the insides of the USB cable. Note red and black as being our (+) and (-) power. Red is the 5v carrier (+). Black is the GND. The inside of the Xbox cable is exactly the same. The Xbox cable will contain one extra wire that is yellow, no need to worry about it. I've dubbed it the videosync wire. Strip both cables back. You'll want the end of the xbox controller that plugs into the Xbox and the end of the USB cable where you can plug in a USB device. These two pieces need to be spliced together. Match the same colors in each cable and then individually tape off each joint. 2. Now that each joint is taped off, it's a good time to test our cable. The trouble with this is, only certain USB devices work in the Xbox without the use of Linux. My thumbdrive LED tutorial is one of the devices that can be used. I'd recommend testing witha USB keyboard. Plug the keyboard in and boot up to Evox, if using Evox. The keyboard Up and Down keys should navigate the menu. If all goes well, power down and doctor up the rest of the homemade cable. |

Another means instead of using a Xbox Dongle would be to use the breakway plug. aThis would allow you to use an existing Xbox controller end to plug in your USB devices. Depending on what kind of USB extension cable you find will determine what means you'll take here. |
![]() 4. Not much to this mod. The specifics of what devices and how to get them to work is another issue. Let's go one step at a time! Here you see my PNY 64mb Thumbdrive plugged into the Xbox. Next tutorial will show you a list of compatible thumbdrives and how to get htme to work! |
